Baptisms

Baptisms are a sacrament of belonging, a new beginning in which a person becomes a full member of Christ’s body, the Church.

The process

If you would like to be baptised, or to request baptism for your child, please contact us. You will meet with one of our priests to discuss and explore the faith your or your child will be more fully entering. If you are seeking baptism as an adult, you may also choose the sacrament of Confirmation at the same time – this will be discussed when you meet with a priest for preparation.

The sacrament

Baptisms are usually celebrated as a small liturgy at a mutually appropriate time. We are generally unable to celebrate baptisms at all during Lent (the six weeks prior to Easter) or Advent (the four weeks before Christmas). There is, however, a strong tradition of holding baptisms and confirmations at the Easter Vigil, held the Saturday night before Easter Day. You may like to discuss this option when you meet for preparation.

The costs

There is no fee for baptism at St Peter’s.
